Antraigues sur Volane

BIENVENUE!

Hôtel - Restaurant - Bar

The village (496 inhabitants) was declared „village de caractère“ by the French Government already a couple of years ago – and indeed Antraigues looks just incredibly “typically French”, in particular for foreign visitors.

It can be reached by taking a small road from Aubenas that winds along the rather steep valley of the Volane river. The village itself is situated high above of the road on a rock formation between the Volane and the Bise rivers; the old natural stone house and the church seem to cling to the rock for support.

The village square is right at the heart of Antraigues –  a site completely according to the books with its trees, a fountain,  a boules alley and two Café-Restaurants (one of them “La Montagne”) offering a comfortable place to rest on their terraces overlooking the square. Visitors who take a closer look around on the square and the surrounding alleys will discover works of art here and there on walls and in corners: little bas-reliefs and sculptures by regional artists.

Antraigues has got two tennis courts and a swimming area on the reaches of the river Maselande, whose waters are crystal clear and very refreshing even in the summer.
